It was our goal to express some of the properties of optical cavities visually. A graphical representation can often teach much more about an equation's properties than doing the calculations by hand. It can give a student (or researcher) a more intuitive understanding of what the equation actually means in a physical sense.

Another aim of this summer project is to gain practise in object oriented programming. We have used the Processing language to create a web applet of the cavity calculator. See also our other Processing examples. Please click on the image below to start test the cavity calculator.
